How to prepare for surgery?

Plans can be made on the computer to determine if additional work, such as orthodontics, is needed to correct the adjustment differences. Once the jaw is grasped, the bone is placed in its new position along with the plate and screws.

The surgeon makes an incision in the back of the molar and along the jaw so that the jaw’s anterior part rotates into a unit. The jaw can be moved back or forth to its new position. During healing, the jaws are held together by plates and screws.

Genioplasty will cure a small chin. A short chin is often displayed with a deficient jaw.

Surgeries can usually replace the jaw and reconstruct the chin during a single operation. The surgeon cut a jaw bone in front of the jaw, moved it forward, and fixed it in a new position with a plate and screws.

The entire orthodontic procedure, including surgery and orthodontic equipment, can take years. After removing conventional equipment, retainers can be used to maintain tooth location.
