At least three major corporations have announced they will stop giving to the political campaigns of Republican lawmakers who opposed the certification of Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.
The development comes as America attempts to reckon with the deadly riots on the U.S. Capitol last week, which happened as a joint-session of Congress was meeting to certify Biden’s win. Those lawmakers who opposed the certification have been at least partially blamed for helping instigate the riots by sowing doubt into the legitimacy of Biden’s victory.
Despite the violence, 147 Republican lawmakers — 139 representatives and eight senators — still voted against the certification of Electoral College results.
What’s happening now?
Popular Information, a political newsletter operated by left-wing operative Judd Legum, contacted 144 corporations that financially supported the Republican lawmakers, specifically the eight senators, through their corporate PACs, asking if the companies would continue to support the lawmakers.
In response, three of the companies told Popular Information they would stop donating:
- Marriott International, the world’s largest hotel chain
- Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of America’s largest health insurance providers
- Commerce Bancshares
In a statement, a spokesperson for Marriott said, “We have taken the destructive events at the Capitol to undermine a legitimate and fair election into consideration and will be pausing political giving from our Political Action Committee to those who voted against certification of the election.”
Meanwhile, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association president and CEO Kim Keck told Popular Information that it was suspending political donations to the 147 Republicans who voted against certification, calling their decision one that sought to “undermine our democracy.”
At the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, we continuously evaluate our political contributions to ensure that those we support share our values and goals. In light of this week’s violent, shocking assault on the United States Capitol, and the votes of some members of Congress to subvert the results of November’s election by challenging Electoral College results, BCBSA will suspend contributions to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.
While a contrast of ideas, ideological differences and partisanship are all part of our politics, weakening our political system and eroding public confidence in it must never be. We will continue to support lawmakers and candidates in both political parties who will work with us to build a stronger, healthier nation.
Commerce Bancshares told Popular Information, “At this time, we have suspended all support for officials who have impeded the peaceful transfer of power. Commerce Bank condemns violence in any form and believes the actions witnessed this week are abhorrent, anti-democratic and entirely contrary to supporting goodwill for Americans and businesses.”
Legum later said that Citibank also told him it would pull their donations, but in Legum’s article, he said that Citibank was pausing all PAC donations, not just those for Republicans.

A few companies told Popular Information they would temporarily suspend all PAC donations without partisan particularity, while others told the newsletter they were reviewing their policies.
It is good to have the names of these Companies as I will never do business with them again…

Great news. I now know which companies should now suffer a national boycott. I have now discontinued my membership in the Marriott Hotels Plan, and am seeking an alternative to the Blue Cross Health plan.
Stay away from Oscar Healthcare, total left wing liberals. Fiancee works for them and they constantly bash anyone who does not agree with their far left ideas. Its all peace and love if you agree with them though, until they start name calling and pointing the finger at the other side. Typical hypocrites.
I am also seeking alternatives for healthcare. If BC/BS is willing to make such a public statement — as opposed to quietly redirecting its political donations — then they are just virtue signaling, and this reveals their true, Leftist heart. The lack of precise knowledge of the Constitution and what it actually reads is what the Biden group is benefitting from here. The lawmakers that voted against the certification were upholding their sworn duty to protect the Constitution as they were not choosing to certify electoral votes that were the result of unconstitutional actions. The states they objected to all had changes to their election rules made by others and not the State Legislatures as required by the Constitution of the United States. Therefore, if the beginning is unconstitutional then the rest is also unconstitutional! Two wrongs do not make a right!

Citi bank in the company who hosts the Costco membership/charge card. I will be visiting Costco today to cancel that card!!! As for Marriott, the Marriott family belong to my church and I will be broadcasting my disproval to my fellow members/travelers. I already left Blue/Blue Cross. If these companies complain now and DID NOT do anything these past four years, they do not deserve revenue from those wish not to serve in full fellowship!!! Blue Cross Blue Shield and Citibank are the two I am connected to. Making calls now to other insurance companies who are all begging for clients. So leaving BCBS will be easy to do with all the competition pleading for your money and the cost and benefits are basically the same. One call to Citibank was all it took to cancel my Citibank credit card.

In 2017 Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) led a group of House Democrats in objecting to the results in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
In 2005 a House member and a senator signed on to an objection to a state’s electoral slate, when then Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) and now former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) objected to Ohio’s votes.
In 2001, Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) led a group of Democrats in objecting to the certification of Florida’s electoral votes, citing “overwhelming evidence of official misconduct, deliberate fraud, and an attempt to suppress voter turnout.”
In 1969 the joint session for tallying electoral votes was also suspended when then Rep. James O’Hara (D-Mich.) and former Sen. Edmund Muskie (D-Maine) objected to the vote of an elector from North Carolina.

I think they need to start teaching history in schools again. We have 8th and 9th grade kids that don’t even know what the 1st,2nd or any other of our amendments.
