ABC News Stokes Racial, Anti-Police Hatred With BLM Co-Founder

Political News

While conservatives can and do condemn violence from the right, as we saw yesterday at the Capitol building, it appears to be too much to ask the liberal media to condemn violence from both sides as well. On Thursday’s GMA 3 on ABC (which serves as the afternoon hour of Good Morning America), co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach pretended they were publicists for the Marxist group Black Lives Matter, whose supporters engaged in many violent riots this past Summer. But instead of pointing that out, ABC covered for the left-wing organization by inviting their co-founder to stoke racial hatred against law enforcement over the terrible events of Wednesday.

As Patrisse Cullors called into the show, Robach touted a statement from the BLM Global Network essentially calling the actions of Capitol Police racist: “Make no mistake, if the protesters had been black we would have been teargassed, battered and perhaps shot.”

T.J. Holmes didn’t even pretend to have journalistic ethics, admitting to Cullors he saw himself with the BLM protesters: “My phone right here, is full of text messages and conversations I had yesterday from all of my friends essentially saying ‘what if that was us?’”

He asked Cullors, “You tell me, of all the thousands we saw, you changed that skin color and saw us climbing the walls, breaking the windows of the Capitol, how would it have gone down?”

Cullors claimed there would’ve been a massacre had only the race changed and the actions stayed the same:

They would have had a full-on response to Black Lives Matter protests like we witnessed over the summer of last year which was mostly peaceful protesters being teargassed, rubber bulleted and brutalized just for calling for the ending of the black people by law enforcement. So we would no not seen what we saw yesterday if it were black people. I say it would have been a massacre if it was black people trying to charge the Capitol.

Robach didn’t challenge Cullors repeated claims that BLM was mostly peaceful. Instead, she invited Cullors to argue there was racism from law enforcement yesterday compared to BLM protests, asking, “What do you make of those arrests the aftermath of the response discrepancies?”

Cullors again alleged that police “orchestrated” the mob: “Well, I think we all need to know very honest about what we witnessed yesterday, which is police orchestrated much of the mob mentality.” She added that the pro-Trump mob yesterday was “white supremacist terrorists.”

ABC concluded the interview by asking Cullors to comment on the “beauty” and “incredible victory” of Democrat Raphael Warnock’s Senate win in Georgia on Tuesday.

AMY ROBACH: In light of yesterday’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the Black Lives Matter Global Network released a statement pointing out ‘the clear double standard in protests of racial in justice versus yesterday’s pro-Trump mob riot. Make no mistake, if the protesters had been black we would have been teargassed, battered and perhaps shot.’

T.J. HOLMES: We want to bring in now Black Lives Matter co-founder and executive director of the Black Lives Matter global network, Patrisse Cullors, Patrisse, good to have you with us as always. My phone right here, is full of text messages and conversations I had yesterday from all of my friends essentially saying ‘what if that was us?’

PATRISSE CULLORS: That’s right.

HOLMES: Essentially that was the question being asked. You tell me, of all the thousands we saw, you changed that skin color and saw ‘us’ climbing the walls, breaking the windows of the Capitol, how would it have gone down?

CULLORS: Well first of all it wouldn’t have happened, first of all. We would have had cops in riot gear. And so, you know, we’re disturbed. The Black Lives Matter movement is disturbed. We are — we have been yelling from the mountain tops for years now that this president is a dangerous president. And now I feel like the entire world, including middle America, agrees with us.

ROBACH: Patrisse, you talk about the discrepancy in anticipation of violence at these different types of protests. But then there also is the reality of the discrepancies in arrests made, fairly glaring between what we saw yesterday, the storming of the U.S. Capitol by armed — some of them armed men and women versus the Black Lives Matter protest, the George Floyd protests. What do you make of those arrests the aftermath of the response discrepancies?

CULLORS: Well, I think we all need to know very honest about what we witnessed yesterday, which is police orchestrated much of the mob mentality. There’s a moment in which the barricade gates are opened up by police officers. We need a response. We need to know why there wasn’t a real tactical response to these rioters, to these white supremacist terrorists. We have seen time and time again over the last seven years that Black Lives Matter matter members who got out and protest to save our lives to fight for black lives are met with rubber bullets. We are met with so much force. And we are met with thousands and thousands of people being arrested. I think there was about 14,000 people arrested this last summer across the country. And what 14 people arrested of the thousands of people who showed up in the Capitol yesterday. That’s unacceptable.
