Vice President Mike Pence touted new Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett during stops Tuesday in North and South Carolina

“Isn’t she something?” Pence said. “How great did she do in those hearings? Didn’t you love it when she held up that blank pad?”

Pence was referring to a moment during Barrett’s Senate Judiciary Committee heading where Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, asked Barrett what notes she was using for reference in her answers during the hearing, and Barrett responded by holding up a blank notepad.

The Senate confirmed Barrett Monday 52-48, with Sen. Susan Collins of Maine the only Republican to vote against Barrett.

Pence introduced his daughter, Audrey Pence, and said people like Barrett and the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg paved the way for women like his daughter.

He also spoke of his faith. “That dogma lives loudly in me,” Pence said, alluding to when Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., criticized Barrett for her faith.

Pence spoke at rallies at Greenville Donaldson Center Airport in South Carolina, and Greensboro Piedmont Triad International Airport and Wilmington International Airport, both in North Carolina.

During his event at the Greenville airport, Pence also spoke about court packing, or adding more justices to the Supreme Court. He noted that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D.-N.Y., “just tweeted today, ‘expand the court.’”

In Greensboro, Pence addressed a variety of policy matters, including the military. “We are finally giving our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines the support they need to defend this nation,” the vice president said.

Pence also touted Trump’s approach to China, saying, “Under President Donald Trump we put China on notice, we said the era of economic surrender is over.”

And as the country grapples with riots and debates about policing, Pence was clear about his viewpoint:  “We’re not going to defund the police, not now, not ever.”

Speaking about COVID-19, Pence said the Trump administration “developed therapeutics that are saving lives,” and said there will be a COVID-19 “vaccine before the end of the year, with millions of doses available.”
