Mel Brooks’s bucket list must have included “make a dumb political statement.” Why else would his first-ever presidential endorsement be for Joe Biden? 

The 94 year-old comedy legend of The Producers and Blazing Saddles fame produced a video of himself talking about why he’s endorsing Former Vice President Joe Biden. Of course it was all about Biden’s future Chinese plague management, “which,” he claimed, “will keep us going.” After all, Mel asserted, Joe actually respects “science.”

Yeah anything Trump did during the plague, Biden will do the opposite. Yadda yadda yadda …

Unfortunately Mel, being at his age, is susceptible to complications from catching COVID. He spoke into the camera from what appeared to be his sterile living room, where not even his son nor his grandson could enter. Though they both made an appearance outside the sliding glass door entrance to Mel’s pad for the sake of social distancing. The entire image was presented in a way to show the tragedy of Trump’s America, where not even dear old granddaddy can hold his grandson.

“Hi folks! I’m Mel Brooks,” the legend began. “And behind me you’re seeing my son and grandson and they can’t be with me!” He continued, “Why? Because of this coronavirus and Donald Trump’s not doing a damn thing about it.” Oh, there it is. Brooks’s choice to continue to not have contact with his closest family members is the president’s own fault, isn’t it?

He heaped blame on the current administration for the COVID deaths, saying, “So many people have died and when you’re dead you can’t do much.” He then pivoted to his official endorsement of the Biden/Harris administration.

“So I’m voting for Joe Biden,” Brooks said as he lifted up a Biden/Harris coffee mug and as his son and grandson both raised up Biden/Harris campaign signs in the background. “Because Joe likes facts. Because Joe likes science! Joe will keep us going.” 

At 94, maybe Mel’s memory is selective. He doesn’t recall that Biden blasted Trump’s xenophobia over closing our borders. 

Brooks says Joe likes “facts.” Well the “facts” the experts have given us change every so often, and both Mel and Joe seem to forget the “fact” that Dems’ COVID strategies have crippled the economy and encroached on citizens’ rights.

“Take a tip from me, vote for Joe,” the Blazing Saddles writer/actor urged. Sorry, Mel, we love you, but no thanks!
